The Italian Garden

The Italian Garden is where most ceremonies happen at Camfield Place, and it is a genuinely romantic setting. Enclosed, intimate, seating 40 to 50, with the kind of atmosphere that makes guests pay attention without anyone needing to ask. For outdoor ceremonies here, I keep the music understated. A gentle system that carries the processional music across the garden without competing with the natural setting. The enclosed walls of the garden help contain the sound, so even at low volumes the music reaches every seat clearly.

The transition from the garden ceremony to the drinks reception on the surrounding lawns feels natural. Guests step out of the intimate ceremony space into the wider parkland, and the shift in scale mirrors the shift in mood, from the quiet focus of the vows to the relaxed energy of celebrating with a drink in hand.

The Main Lawn and Marquee

For larger celebrations, a marquee on the Main Lawn is the option, and the setting is genuinely striking. Sweeping views across Capability Brown parkland and down to the lake, with the manor house behind you. The scale of the grounds means the marquee can be positioned to make the most of the views, and the open aspect of the lawn gives the celebration a sense of space and freedom.

Marquees have their own acoustic character. Canvas walls absorb less sound than brick or timber, so I adjust the system to work with that. The benefit is that you are starting with a blank canvas, literally. The layout, the lighting, the dancefloor position, all of it can be designed from scratch. I work with couples during the planning stage to position the DJ setup and dancefloor where they will have the most impact, usually close to the main entrance so guests are drawn straight to the energy when they come back in from the grounds.

The A1(M) is close for guests driving. There is no on-site accommodation, but Hatfield and Welwyn Garden City both have hotels within 10 minutes, and the estate can advise on local options for guests staying overnight.
