The Bridgman-Selwin Suite

The main event space for larger weddings, and it is a room that has been well thought out. Purpose-built during the refurbishment with weddings in mind, so the acoustics are cleaner than you often find in period properties. The ceiling height gives the room a sense of occasion without creating the echo problems that plague some hotel ballrooms. Sound carries evenly across the space, which means I can keep the dancefloor pumping without the volume becoming uncomfortable for guests seated further back.

The suite opens onto its own private garden, which is a genuine bonus during summer weddings. Guests move freely between inside and out, and that flow keeps the energy feeling relaxed rather than boxed in. I use the garden transition to shape the mood, shifting from laid-back outdoor music during drinks to something with more pace as people drift back inside for the evening.

Acoustically, smaller rooms with high ceilings and hard surfaces can be tricky. Sound bounces around and builds quickly. I scale the system right down for these spaces, using compact speakers positioned to fill the room without overwhelming it. The goal is music that wraps around the room rather than hitting people from one direction. Background music during the meal feels present but never intrusive, and when the evening kicks in, you can build the energy without ever touching uncomfortable volume levels.
