North Mymms Park is the kind of house that settles your shoulders the moment you arrive. A Grade I listed Elizabethan mansion built for Sir Ralph Coningsby around 1599, it sits in its own parkland near Brookmans Park, eighteen miles from London yet only minutes from Hatfield. The House and Its History

The mansion is a classic Elizabethan great house: red brick with diamond patterns picked out in blue, tall clustered chimneys, and stone-mullioned windows under parapeted gables. Sir Ralph Coningsby pulled down his family's older house and built this one at the turn of the seventeenth century. The interiors you see today owe much to the architect Sir Ernest George, who reworked them in the 1890s in Elizabethan revival style, adding the carved stone chimneypieces and panelling that give the rooms their weight.
