My Experience as a DJ at Offley Place

I've performed at Offley Place many times and know exactly how to make the most of its acoustics, layouts, and vibe - especially within the ceremony and reception spaces, where ambience and lighting play such a huge role.

Whether it's setting the tone during your ceremony or keeping the dancefloor buzzing in the reception area, I tailor everything to match the feel of your day.

An award-winning 17th-century country manor at the end of a sweeping drive in the village of Great Offley. What sets Offley Place apart is its genuine expertise with multicultural weddings and dry hire, giving you complete freedom to bring your own suppliers and create exactly the celebration you envision. The Hester Ballroom seats up to 250 for the wedding breakfast, while the Manor House Conservatory provides a more intimate setting for 82. Exclusive hire includes all 16 bedrooms, meaning your guests have the whole place to themselves for the weekend.

The Hester Ballroom

The Hester Ballroom is the main event space and it is built for big celebrations. Up to 250 seated for the wedding breakfast, with room for 300 in the evening. The ceiling height and the proportions of the room mean the sound has space to develop properly. At lower volumes during dinner, the music sits comfortably underneath conversation. When the evening kicks in and the numbers grow, the room fills with energy without the sound becoming harsh or compressed. I position speakers to cover the dancefloor and the surrounding tables evenly, with the volume tapering naturally towards the back of the room where guests are chatting.

The Ballroom also has good infrastructure for lighting. Uplighting along the walls transforms the feel of the space as the evening progresses, and the room responds well to colour. Whether you want warm amber for dinner shifting to something bolder for the party, or a consistent palette that matches your theme, the space works with it rather than against it.

The Manor House Conservatory

For smaller weddings or ceremonies, the Conservatory seats up to 82 and has a completely different character. Light, airy, with views across the gardens, it feels personal and relaxed. The glass and lighter materials mean the acoustics are brighter than the Ballroom. I adjust the system to suit, keeping the sound warm and present without letting the higher frequencies become too sharp. It is a lovely room for a ceremony, and the contrast between the Conservatory's calm, natural-light atmosphere and the Ballroom's grander evening setting gives couples a genuine shift in mood through the day.

The Salusbury Lounge and Hughes Lounge provide additional breakout spaces for drinks receptions and quieter moments during the evening. That separation between the dancefloor and the lounge areas is always useful. People who want to dance can have proper energy, and people who want to sit and talk have somewhere comfortable to go.

Multicultural Celebrations

This is where Offley Place genuinely stands apart. The venue has built a real expertise with multicultural weddings, and that shows in how smoothly the day runs when you are blending traditions, music styles, and timings from different cultures. Dry hire means you bring your own caterers, decorators, and suppliers, so couples are not limited to a fixed menu or a standard package. You can build the day exactly the way you want it.

From a DJ's perspective, multicultural weddings are some of the most rewarding events to work. The music shifts between genres, tempos, and languages through the day, and reading the room becomes even more important. I work closely with couples in the planning stage to understand which traditions matter, where the energy peaks should fall, and how to transition between different musical styles so the dancefloor stays full regardless of which side of the family is up. Offley Place's team understands this too, and that shared understanding makes the day run more smoothly.

Location

Offley Place is in the village of Great Offley, North Hertfordshire. The A505 is nearby, with Hitchin and Luton both within 15 minutes. Luton Airport is close for international guests, and Hitchin station has mainline services to London King's Cross in around 30 minutes. The 16 en-suite bedrooms and a self-catering cottage mean your closest guests can stay on site without needing to arrange transport.

What Couples Say

Tony was absolutely incredible - genuinely better than anything we could've asked for. We had half Indian family and half white British and my god the dance floor was never empty. I can't tell you how many people have said to me they've never danced so much because the music was too good to leave the dance floor. I've even heard my best friend tried her first Indian dance - can't wait to see that video. The pictures were an absolute touch. Can't thank you enough Tony.
