My Experience as a DJ at Sandon Manor
I've performed at Sandon Manor many times and know exactly how to make the most of its acoustics, layouts, and vibe - especially within the ceremony and reception spaces, where ambience and lighting play such a huge role.
Whether it's setting the tone during your ceremony or keeping the dancefloor buzzing in the reception area, I tailor everything to match the feel of your day.
An exclusive countryside wedding destination set within 1,200 acres of re-wilded nature reserve, Sandon Manor feels genuinely different from the typical Hertfordshire venue. The centrepiece is a 13th-century Medieval Barn with historic beams, a cocktail bar, and club room, hosting celebrations of up to 150. Four converted historic buildings around a central courtyard give real flexibility for how you use the space through the day. On-site accommodation sleeps up to 50 across the Manor House, Grain Barn, and the romantic Dovecote honeymoon suite. Dog-friendly, fully accessible, and just 10 minutes from Royston Station on the Cambridge line.
The Medieval Barn
The 13th-century barn is the heart of Sandon Manor, and it has genuine character. Historic beams, stone walls, and the kind of atmosphere that comes from a building that has been standing for nearly 800 years. The acoustics are naturally warm. Stone and timber absorb the harsher frequencies, giving the room a rich, full sound that suits both gentle background music during dinner and a packed dancefloor later in the evening. The barn hosts up to 150, which is a good number. Big enough to feel like a proper celebration, small enough that the energy stays concentrated and the dancefloor fills without effort.
The integrated cocktail bar and club room within the barn mean guests do not need to leave the building to get a drink or find a quieter spot. That flow, where people move between the dancefloor, the bar, and the club room without stepping outside, keeps the atmosphere contained and the energy building throughout the night.
The Courtyard Buildings
Four converted historic buildings arranged around a central courtyard give Sandon Manor a flexibility that most venues cannot match. Ceremony in one space, drinks in the courtyard, dinner in the barn, evening party with the bar and club room. Each building has its own character, and the courtyard acts as the connecting thread, giving guests a natural path between spaces.
During summer weddings, the courtyard itself becomes a key part of the day. I set up background music for outdoor drinks receptions, pitched to carry across the open space without fighting the surroundings. The transition from the relaxed courtyard atmosphere to the barn for the evening is one of those natural shifts in energy that guests feel without it being forced. By the time everyone is inside and the barn is lit, the mood has already built.
The Re-Wilded Estate
Twelve hundred acres of re-wilded nature reserve is not just a number on a brochure. You can feel the difference. The air is different, the light is different, and the sense of being properly away from everything is real. For couples who care about the environment, or simply want their wedding to feel wild and natural rather than manicured and corporate, Sandon Manor delivers that in a way no hotel or country house can.
The seclusion also has practical benefits. No neighbours means no noise restrictions beyond what is sensible. The evening can build naturally without watching the clock, and the party runs at whatever pace the room dictates. When your guests are staying on site, sleeping 50 across the Manor House, Grain Barn, and the Dovecote honeymoon suite, nobody is leaving early for a taxi. The dancefloor stays full, the energy stays high, and the whole celebration has that feeling of everyone being properly in it together.
Location
Sandon Manor is near Buntingford in North East Hertfordshire. Royston Station is around 10 minutes away, with services on the Cambridge line to London King's Cross. The A10 is close for guests driving from London or Cambridge. The estate's rural setting means the last stretch of the drive feels properly countryside, which sets the tone before anyone has even arrived.
What Couples Say
From the moment we met with him to discuss our day to the day itself, Tony had tips and tricks to help us think about and plan out our day to make it memorable. We opted for the DJ and Master of Ceremonies package as we wanted our wedding party to enjoy the day and not have to run around and do things for us. We couldn't have chosen a better person for the job!! We used a few of his ideas from the introductions of the wedding party for the wedding breakfast to the Facebook group for song requests for the evening's disco. Both these in particular were a huge hit with our guests and the atmosphere never dipped once during the day. As a bride I never felt pestered - Tony made it his mission to get to know all the key people in the wedding party and other vendors.
